Vetafarm Doxyvet is for the treatment of infections caused by doxycycline susceptible organisms in dogs and cats including skin infections, such as pyoderma, folliculitis, respiratory infections, genitourinary infections, otitis externa and otitis media, osteomyelitis and puerperal infections.
DOXYVET has activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Susceptible bacteria may include: Staphyloccus spp., Streptococcus spp., E. coli, Haemophilus spp., Clostridium spp., Listeria spp., Bacteroides spp., Bordetella spp. and Klebsiella spp. Also active against Rickettsia spp., Chlamydia spp., and Mycoplasma spp.

Contains:50mg/mL Doxycycline Hydrochloride
Birds- 1mL (20 drops) per 100mL(or 7 drops per 1 fl. oz) of drinking water. Rodents- 0.15mL (3 drops) per 100mL(or 1 drop per 1 fl. oz) of drinking water Treat for 7 days. change water daily and keep out of direct sunlight. Cats- First day 2 drops per Kg (or 4 drops per 5lb) body weight (5mg/kg) orally for 7-10 days. The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has advised patients and families to take note of the availability of doxycycline in pharmacies. The drug is available for purchase without a prescription in all major US healthcare facilities, from pharmacies throughout the United States. As a result, patients may be more likely to seek help from their physician, or seek out a prescription service.
“Despite its widespread use, doxycycline remains a popular antibiotic in the US healthcare system,” said DSHC’s Dr. Paul R. Lechleiter, DMD, PhD, director of DHSC’s Center for Pharmacoeconomics and Health Economics.
“Doxycycline is an important option for people seeking treatment for bacterial infections, particularly when prescribed in higher doses or for a prolonged period. However, there is no evidence that the drug is more effective than the alternative antibiotics, which can cause significant harm.”
Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is effective against many bacterial infections and is not a common option for most patients. In clinical trials, doxycycline was found to be effective in treating more than 80% of acute bacterial infections in patients who had failed oral antibiotics, including those complicated by pneumonia and other serious illnesses.
However, the use of doxycycline in these patients is often too expensive and may result in a financial burden to their families. There is a need for the availability of doxycycline in pharmacies and to provide a service to patients who may be unable to afford the medication, or who may not be willing to take the cost into account.
In a recent clinical trial, patients taking doxycycline in a hospital setting were more likely to seek help from a physician when they had a prescription, compared with patients who took antibiotics without a prescription.
The results were a mixed. Patients with high-risk bacterial infections (including those with a severe or complicated urinary tract infection, pneumonia, or sinusitis) were more likely to seek help from a physician when they had a prescription. The use of doxycycline in these patients was generally well tolerated. However, the use of doxycycline may result in higher costs and more difficulty accessing treatment.
“The data presented here are an important reminder of the need to carefully consider all aspects of treatment and potential risks associated with the use of this medication, particularly for patients with complicated infections,” said Dr. Robert W. Bower, DMD, associate professor of psychiatry and the author of the recent report. “Our findings suggest that the availability of doxycycline in pharmacies can provide a convenient alternative to antibiotics in these patients, allowing them to seek out the appropriate treatment and potentially reduce their cost.”
